Pediatric Pharmacist Position Description:
Under Supervision, incumbents actively provide pharmaceutical care within the context of a health care team and medical care plan. In addition to the clinical services related to the provision of Pharmaceutical Services described for Pediatric Pharmacists, incumbents have on-going responsibility for monitoring and evaluating patients for appropriate therapeutic outcomes; reviewing individual patients’ records to ensure that drug therapy is appropriate; developing pharmaceutical care plans; disseminating drug information to health care professionals; participating in patient care conferences; and participating in the design and completion of patient drug use reviews, audits and other drug related studies and projects. Incumbents may also have the responsibility for a distinct pharmacy program, with or without clinical responsibilities, which requires abilities and expertise beyond those of a Pediatric Pharmacists. Examples include maintenance and use of computerized information databases, a quality assurance program, intravenous (IV) additive program, mail order service, or disaster/safety/CPR programs. Responsibilities may include the formal supervision of non-pharmacists (pharmacy assistants, students/interns, etc.) and/or a limited number of Pediatric pharmacists I and II. All Pediatric Pharmacists have primary and consistent responsibilities for teaching and precepting pharmacy students and/or residents. Pediatric Pharmacists initiate, plan and implement projects. A portion of the annualized work time for Pediatric Pharmacists may be designated to Pediatric Pharmacists tasks as specified by their job descriptions.
Pediatric Pharmacist Requirements:
- 2+ years’ experience as a Pediatric Pharmacist, required
- CA License Pharmacist in good standing with the board
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
- PGY1 Residency training required, PGY2 Pediatric Residency training preferred
- Must pass required competency exams
- Must possess strong ethical standards
